Мой пра-прадед Иван Карпович Ширшов был управляющим нижегородской конторой металлургических заводов Строгановых и судя по адресным книгам Нижнего с 1870 до смерти в 1881 году жид в ДОМЕ ГРАФА СТРОГРАНОВА на Рождественской улице в доме № 12. Получается, что современная нумерация домов не соответствует? Раз это дом купцов Чурина и Гребенщикова. Посветите, кто может? Где на Рождествtнке был еще один (кроме усадьбы дом 45) дои Строгановых? marinin031259@mail.ru

The Nizhniy Novgorod region is a part of Volga federal district. The administrative center is Nizhny Novgorod. The city is also a capital of the federal district.

The region is located in the European part of Russia and borders on Kostroma, Kirov, Ryazan, Vladimir and Ivanovo regions, and also with following republics: Mary-El, Chuvashia and Mordovia.

53% of the whole territory of Nizhniy Novgorod region is occupied by woods. The Nizhegorodskoe Zavolzhie, biosphere Reserve (also known as Kerzhensky reserve) – one of the largest in Russia - is located in the region.

There is an ancient natural monument in Kerzhensky reserve – Svetloyar Lake. According to one old legend, Kitezh – a mythical city - was submerged into this lake in 14th century.

Besides unique natural monuments, the Nizhniy Novgorod region has a great number of architectural and historical monuments. One of them is Boldino – Pushkin’s family country estate.
